Neutralization by soluble antigen in serum is a way to identify antibodies that target determinants present on circulating components, not just on RBCs. The Chido/Rogers system consists of antigens on the C4 component of complement that circulate in serum. An antibody directed against these determinants can be absorbed by serum containing CH/Rg antigens, removing its ability to react with red cells in testing. That’s why serum neutralization is characteristic for anti-Chido/Rogers. The other antibodies are not classically identified by this serum neutralization pattern in the same way.
